Couple of square brackets above. Can't pick them up, even with media player on slower speed. The latter sounds more like "ken dao" but I think "pengdao" makes more sense, as in Lei Feng 'bumping into' other people with difficulties and just helping them'.

John: So they're talking about the living conditions. I think in English we'd say life over there is hard. Life is hard. But in Chinese you talk about the conditions.

John: OK, 吃不好 means you eat not well

John: 住不好，so you live not well

John: So, it seems she was in a forum chatting?
Dilu: 嗯，好象是，好像表示不太确定
John: Yeah, so 好像，3rd tone, 4th tone, uh, notice that Chinese people frequently use that when they're not totally sure and we like to translate that as 'it seems' whereas in English when we're not totally sure we often say 'I think'
