John: Hi, you're listening to Chinesepod. My name is John Pasden. This is an Intermediate lesson.

Dilu

John: So, Dilu, what are we talking about today?

Dilu:

John: OK, three people

Dilu:

John: OK, three people from different countries, is one of them Chinese?

Dilu:

John: OK

Dilu:

John: OK, so she's showing around two foreign students, is that right?

Dilu:

John: Alright, and uh, this lesson if you didn't notice from the title is about stereotypes

Dilu: 哦

John: And there's actually a grammatical feature that you might notice, um, it's going to come up a lot in this dialogue, related to stereotyping people.

Dilu:

John: Alright

No pressure mate, but I'm tipping a flawless transcript here from you. You'll nail this ! But yeah, a lesson which I'm sure will generate a lot of interest and those at Ellie level who want in, will hopefully find a transcript useful.

Thanks for the belief mate. Must admit after the hard slog of the recent UI transcripts, it's quite nice coming back to a few Intermediates - if only for the feelgood factor in terms of how much this transcribing lark has benefited my listening comprehension. And yes, hopefully a lesson transcript will help those Eles looking to make the jump.

John: Yeah, so I want to ask a simple question here.

Dilu:

John: This 很高兴见到你们,so, nice to meet you.

Dilu: 嗯,very typical

John: Can you just say

Dilu:

John: So, once you've already met someone you typically use 见到, is that right?

Dilu:

John: But if you want to say I'm going to go and meet some friends you say 去见朋友, right?

Dilu:

John: OK, so just a little subtle note in usage there. So then, going on, the girl, she introduces herself, right? What does she say?

Dilu:

John: OK, so 先,first tone, meaning "first"

Dilu: 是的

John: "First" meaning what, like before you guys can say anything or like before we do anything else

Dilu: 她就是比较主动地说,诶那before you guys say anything, allow me to

John: OK, so that's why the 先。And then the word for "introduce myself" is...

Dilu:

John: So 自我,4th and 3rd (tone), that means "self", right?

Dilu:

John: And of course, 介绍,two 4th tones, you learned that a long-time ago, but let me ask real quick, this 自我介绍 it has the word 我 in it. Can you use it for other people like 她先自我介绍

Dilu: 也可以

John: OK, so this 自我 is totally independent of 我

John: Yeah, it seems like everytime you say 自我介绍 you always add an 一下

Dilu:

John: Just the way people talk

Dilu: 对

John: And if you don’t add the 一下 it doesn’t sound natural, right?

Dilu: 【
