Although there are some verbs which can stand on their own with one syllable, in modern Chinese, many verbs are expressed in two (or more) syllables. In fact, most monosyllabic verbs can be changed into disyllabic verbs. This Qing Wen discusses some of the ways that Chinese verbs grow longer.

zài Zhōngwén lǐmiàn jiào “dān yīnjié ”hé “shuāng yīnjié ”。
In Chinese, they are called “dānyīnjié” and “shuāngyīnjié”.
zài Zhōngwén hěn jiǎndān ，yīnwèi “dān yīnjié ”jiùshì yī gè zì ，“shuāng yīnjié jiùshì liǎng gè zì 。
In Chinese it's very easy, because monosyllabic words have just one character, and disyllabic words have two characters.
dànshì xiàndàihànyǔ yībān yào yòng shuāng yīnjié de cí 。
But modern Chinese usually will use disyllabic words.
jīntiān wǒmen bāng dàjiā zǒngjié le jǐzhǒng fāngfǎ ，bǎ dān yīnjié biànchéng shuāng yīnjié 。
