Today's lesson is a bit different and quite special. We have a 20 minute Chinese New Year calligraphy lesson for you all to join in with. Join newbie learner Karl and advanced learner Natasha as they learn to write some common sayings and characters to write during Spring Festival. We will learn all about why you see certain characters such as 春 and 满 everywhere during this time, and also the meaning behind the red sheets of paper on either side of a door seen during this festival. yīnwèi shì guònián ，suǒyǐ yào xiě zài hóngsè de zhǐshàng 。
Because it's the New Year, we write on red paper.
zhè ge （fāngxíng de zhǐ ）shì yònglái xiě yī gè zì de 。
This (square paper) is for writing one character only.
ránhòu ne ，zhè ge shì sì gè zì de ，yǒudiǎnr zuòbì ，yīnwèi zhèlǐ yǒu sì gè quānquān ，xiě zài zhègè （quānquān lǐ ）jiù kěyǐ le 。
Then, this is for writing four characters. You're cheating a little, because there are already four circles drawn out. You just have to write in the circles.
