SIMPLIFIED PINYIN ENGLISH  
夫唱妇随 fūchàngfùsuí lit. the man sings and the woman follows (chengyu); fig. wives obey their husbands.
地位 dìwèi position; status
三妻四妾 sānqīsìqiè fig. to marry many wives and concubines (chengyu)
争取 zhēngqǔ to strive for
中国有一句成语「夫唱妇随」，老公唱歌的时候，老婆就跟着一起唱，意思就是老婆要听老公的话。
Zhōngguó yǒu yī jù chéngyǔ 「fūchàngfùsuí 」，lǎogōng chànggē de shíhou ，lǎopó jiù gēnzhe yīqǐ chàng ，yìsi jiù shì lǎopó yào tīng lǎogōng de huà 。
There’s a Chinese chengyu that goes “the husband sings and his wife follows.” Literally, it means “when the husband sings, the wife should sing with him.” And it figuratively means “wives obey their husbands.”
在古代，中国女性的地位很低，男性甚至可以三妻四妾，但是在现代社会，女性的地位已经越来越高了。
zài gǔdài ，Zhōngguó nǚxìng de dìwèi hěn dī ，nánxìng shènzhì kěyǐ sānqīsìqiè ，dànshì zài xiàndài shèhuì ，nǚxìng de dìwèi yǐjīng yuèláiyuè gāo le 。
In ancient times, Chinese women’s status was low. Men at that time could marry many wives and concubines. But nowadays, the females’ status has gotten better.
