I see there is an old lesson on,

总是 (zǒngshì) and 老是 (lǎoshi)

could we have one on the difference between 总是and一直,

interpreted as always in English?

I also agree about the differences between similar words. I think this is one of the hardest points for me and others, even after years of study.

At the end of the conversation I heard Connie say 英文太 gǎo 了. Or did I hear wrong was it 英文太糟了. I never heard someone use gǎo to say too complicated. If it is gǎo what character is it?

Thank you

你看到什么? Question What did you see? I

什么都没看到 I didn't see anything

When 什么is used before 都 or 也 it indicates what is spoken about is without exeption. That is everything or nothing.

This example, speaks about what things have been seen. So 什么都没看到 means 没看到 Not see anything without exeption. or have seen anything

你听到什么消息? 我什么消息都没听到。What news have you heard? I haven't heard any news. Hope this makes sense to you.

I have a question not really related to this lesson. But I really don't know where to ask it. It is the difference between 如果 and 要是 both if. Are they totally interchangable, 要是 being less formal? Or are there different ways to use them? Thanks for any help.
