There sure are a lot of mnemonic suggestions for bee and honey. Mine - which has to be the most boring - is that in Pinyin and English, they both have to be in alphabetical order (fengmi = bee honey) or reverse alphabetical order (mifeng = honey bee).

Is this a convention (e.g. adding second tone 儿 to a fourth tone produces a third tone), or just an anomoly to remember?

I have trouble with the third part of the exercises (where you type in the pinyin). Even when I think I'm doing it correctly, I get a mark that I don't understand (e.g. in this exercise, I got 2/6). I assume it's because I'm not handling some of the conventions properly (e.g. neutral tone, or spacing, etc.), but the test doesn't tell me how the correct answer should be entered. For example, I tried "hao3" for question 2, and "ke3ai4" for 3 (both with and without the space), and neither were marked correct. Suggestions? ...

Ken, I think this is fine as a newbie lesson ... although the translation (in the review mp3 file) of 'the Great Wall isn't far' as '公司不远' might cause a bit of confusion ... (unless you're referring to 中国长城工业公司, in which case it is too challenging)
