You boil your water at 212 degrees not just 100 The mile is much bigger than the Km. And who wants a litre if you can have a gallon! Oddly enough there are 100 cents in the dollar. Perhaps it was easier for the emperors to count their money on their fingers. Being so isolated they never heard of the abacus. Ah well...
