Bringing up an old thread I know, but I'm fairly new to CPod and poking about some earlier podcasts.  I ran across this phrase: 不用麻烦了 and my quick glance interpretation is that would be said to someone who is about to undertake what the speaker considers to be pointless.  Is this the correct context?  Any other ideas on how this would be used?

I thought it interesting that you guys described the man in this lesson as so busy he did not even realize it was his birthday!  The first time through the dialogue I laughed outloud because I thought that the man was just being clever, letting somebody know it was his birthday without being so crass as to just announce it immediately!

my experience in Xi'an with the difference between 宾馆 and 酒店 was that at least there it depended on what the hotel was known for. For example, the big-5 star tourist hotel that catered to tourists had 宾馆 on the sign, but colloquially on the street if you wanted to take a taxi there you had to use the name + 酒店 because the only reasons locals went there was for the restaurant. Maybe that isn't how it really works, but that's at least how I understood it in my head!

Great lesson! I really could've used that phrase 你到底想干什么 back when I was teaching English in Xi'an and had a brand new class of 100+ apathetic provincial college students...
