August 13, 2021, 04:48 PMThe rules whereby people use the polite or the familiar form can vary from one language to another. However, Chinese seems to be unique in that usage can actually fluctuate, depending on the situation. This tends not to be the case for European languages where usage is mostly fixed. You stick to one particular form of address until something happens to occasion a switch, e.g. an invitation, a request to do so, a feeling that you've known each other and that it would be nice to do so, etc. (It depends on the culture how this is triggered.) In Chinese, on the other hand, you might mostly address a person with the familiar form, but then occasionally use the polite form to indicate special appreciation - and this is precisely the case in this dialogue. Very non-European! A German, Russian, Pole, Frenchman, Dutchman, Italian, etc. would not suddenly switch to "Sie", "Pan(i)!", "vous, "вы", "Lei", etc. for one specific situation and then back again to "du", "ty", "tu", "ты", etc for everyday use, as far as I'm aware.

March 19, 2021, 10:25 PMIn the dictation part of the exercises, the system took a point off for writing 他到医院了 instead of 她到医院了。But 她 and 他 are pronounced the same, and the learner can't guess what's in the speaker's head. So I think you might want to reprogram that bit. :-)

I particularly like the way you branched out and included a few related phrases, rather than strictly sticking to the dialogue script. It's a good way to consolidate structures and vocab, as they become more memorable this way. Do please keep it up! Many blessings from an enthusiastic sino-hobbyist in 考文垂， 英国。Incidentally, Gwilym appears to be a Welsh name, but you don't sound Welsh; neither do you sound very Scottish, Fiona. :-) I do enjoy hearing you, though - particularly Fiona when you switch so nicely between your two native languages.

November 06, 01:33 PMI asked ChatGPT to take the additional vocab in the unit and to produce a dialogue on its basis, keeping strictly within HSK3 limits. I think the result is quite usable for us as learners. However, if anyone Chinese finds anything wrong in the linguistic content, please say.
A：你的经理对你的业绩怎么样？
B：他有一点失望。
A：为什么？你不认真吗？
B：我很认真，也很勤奋。
A：那他不会表扬你吗？
B：他想要更好的业绩，我要再努力。
