Thanks for the lesson Amber, very helpful, I think it's very important to make an effort to understand the way of those in the country you are in, it's really a matter of respect and shows you're interested in them and their culture

Well kesirui, I'm half American and I've lived there for eight years, never did like Mcdonald's much (Not so healthy) but I think most people would consider putting fries on the paper is less than sanitary. A very shocking thing for me coming to China was restaurants, I like enjoyably quiet atmospheres while I'm eating, but Chinese restaurants are often loud and smoky and..not quite relaxing, but to Chinese I've met for them eating is a time to be with friends and talk and it's pretty much their way of socializing, it's all around food. Most Chinese people think it's strange how foreigners like to order their own things, food is more of a communal thing for them I guess.

Well, I guess it also has to do with where you reside the most, if you frequent Harbin (as I do) you will get quite a warm response if you talk like the locals. If you travel more over China I've heard Taiwan pronunciation is looked on as very proper, however I don't think people would really mind either way, unless you are speaking with an accent from some ancient dialect that nobody understands, so until I go to shang hai I think I'll keep my er's, I've grown quite comfortable with them.

Very good lesson, love those chestnuts, sadly they're not too common up north (Although you do get your heart's content of baked yams -kao di gua)
