We forgot one of the most common 受 expressions: 受欢迎!

I like how John is not afriad to discuss grammar, even at the elementary level. As long was we're talking about tricky 了:

In the expansion sentences, what's the difference (if any) between

回去以后电话

and

回去以后电话

When I first heard this dialogue, I thought the woman said 我老伴 instead of 我老爸.  I have heard northerner's use 老伴儿 (with the 儿) but is this also used in Shanghai?  If so, 有没有儿化音?

So if 我来了 is completely context-dependent and can mean completely different things: “I'm coming", "I've almost come" or "I came", what's the point of saying it?

So 有 is one of the verbs (like the "psych" verbs John mentioned a few lessons ago e.g. 很想去) that can be modified by 很.  What are some others?

So does 同居 necessarily imply romantic cohabitation?  Can a homestay be 同居?  How do you say homestay (when a student stays with a foreign family for language immersion purposes) anyway?

这是学中文的网站吧。你们还是用一个popup词典(比如http://popupchinese.com/chinese/download),不用打拼音。不仅免费而且很有用!

Very good explanation on 记住 and 记, but what about 记 and 记得? Are they always interchangeable?  Could the last line be 因为可以直接名字不用记得奇怪称呼。? I feel like 得 should introduce a complement, but here it seems like it's part of the verb.

I am baffled by the grammar in this Expansion sentance:

不是女朋友
(Is she not your girlfriend?)

It seems to me to be "Doesn't he have a girlfriend".  Is this translation just wrong?
