Perhaps the Chinese can come to the rescue of Guam, which is overrun with a species of non-native semi-poisonous tree snakes.  I have suggested this to the Guamanian Representative in the U.S. Congress.  He told me that the snakes are very fast and hard to catch, and I told him that if he told the Chinese they could have all they could catch, no limit, they would figure out a way to catch them.

I never heard any more about this.  These snakes grow up to five feet long, and have nearly eradicated native birds.  I just heard on the news that the government is going to air drop poisoned mice to try to kill the snakes.  I have read reports of as many as 10,000 snakes per acre in some areas.

I just had a dicussion about this with a Korean friend. I told her the joke, "What time is it?" "Do you mean now?"

I pointed out that in English, when we say "What time is it now?" there is an implied deadline of some sort. In other words, we expect something to happen in the near future, such as when are we leaving, what time does the movie start, when do we eat, and so on. As always, I could be wrong.

I turned 76 Sunday, and have taken up studying the erhu. I am also studying Korean, which, to me, is much harder than Chinese.

That is quite all right. No need for sorrow, there are enough tears in this world. However, the correction was not aimed specifically at the previous writer. I suppose the use of words/phrases such as dunno, wanna, u r, and the like, are the result of the proliferation of texting with phones, as are accidents. Did you see the one on the news of a woman texting in a mall and falling into a pool?

"Dunno" is not the exactly the correct word to use when discussing the propriety of words. I see it used quite frequently by some of my Chinese pen pals. Who is doing this to the English language over there? :)

Well, I have never been to China, except Taiwan, and that was just on a joint military maneuver in 1960. We did not go to town. This was back when Taiwan held the seat as China in the U.N.. So I am out of the loop in this one. Yes I am a senior citizen. I was born in 1935, and will be 76 next month

Back to my erhu lesson.

Why is it  that I do not get a lesson with these types of discussions?  All I get is the discussion, no dailogue, vocabulary, or expansion, as I do with some of the lessons?  What am I doing wrong?

I have just started takin gerhu lessons about two months ago.  That is what brought me to this lesson.  I will be 75 next month, so I guess I am in the right age bracket, at least for playing it.  Not necessarily the right one for learning it.
