The local news here in Taiwan has been reporting the link to drinks like Pearl Milk Tea and obesity in youth for a month or so. Young people try to lose weight by not eating meals, then drink up to three drinks like this a day. If you drink one Pearl Milk a day for 14 days, you can put on 1kg in body weight. Also, the pearls now contain a lot of preservatives and artificial colorings and flavorings. No more of these milk teas for me!

Hi, I am a New Zealander residing in Taiwan and I have an online store where I sell cloth diapers and feminine products, as well as other baby goods. I came across this pod doing a search for information. I hope I can add something useful to the discussion. We translated "panty-liners" to 日常護墊 (My pinyin is awful, I use the Taiwan pronunciation system, so maybe someone can provide the pinyin...) On the packs they use the words "日常" so you can look for those. About the tampon discussion, while it is true women don't generally use them, the main issue is the way government has classified them, and controlled their import and sale, so they are not an item that stores bring in. Another issue is the hygiene, it used to be the case in Taiwan that it was hard to find clean toilets and places to wash your hands with soap in public, so I guess there was concern about putting things in your body in that kind of environment. I found the toilets in China pretty bad too. Finally, in Taiwan women's issues are talked about rather more openly than at home, for example, you are with a group of friends for dinner and your husband will announce, "Oh she can't go swimming/doesn't feel well/etc, she has her period." And men often go and buy their girlfriends their menstrual items at that time of the month when the gf is at home not feeling well.
